Pink Horizons, Rhinos and Rift Valley Drama

Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley's great spectacles — an alkaline soda lake that at its peak hosted more than a million flamingos, turning the entire shoreline a vivid, impossible pink. The lake fluctuates with the rains, but even in quieter years the flamingo flocks number in the hundreds of thousands.

Beyond the flamingos, Nakuru National Park protects both black and white rhino — Kenya's strongest rhino population — alongside lion, leopard, giraffe, and waterbuck. The Baboon Cliff viewpoint surveys the entire lake from above. Three days is the perfect amount of time to absorb this underrated jewel of Kenya.
