The Journey

Two Parks, Every Age, One Extraordinary Memory

Children experience Kenya differently from adults — and more purely. When a six-year-old sees their first wild elephant at close range, the wonder on their face is the reason this company exists. The Family Mara and Nakuru safari is built for mixed-age families who want quality without sacrifice — neither the children bored nor the parents compromising.

Lake Nakuru first — the flamingo spectacle at the water's edge is immediately accessible and visually overwhelming for children and adults alike. Then the Maasai Mara for the full wildlife drama. Family-friendly lodges with kids' activities, family rooms, and guides who are as comfortable explaining animal tracking to a seven-year-old as they are discussing migration patterns with a PhD.

Your Itinerary

Day 01

Nairobi Lake Nakuru

Road transfer · 2.5 hrs

Depart Nairobi west on a comfortable road journey through the Rift Valley. Children spot zebra and giraffe from the highway before you even enter the park. Arrive at Lake Nakuru by lunchtime. Afternoon game drive — the flamingo lake shore is the immediate priority. Children are silent with astonishment.

Day 02

Full Nakuru Day

Lake Nakuru National Park

Full day at Nakuru. The park is compact and safe, making it ideal for families. Baboon Cliff viewpoint for aerial photographs of the flamingo lake. The rhino sanctuary interior track. A picnic lunch at a designated area with views of the lake.

Day 03

Nakuru Maasai Mara

Road transfer via Narok

Morning drive through the Rift Valley and into the Mara ecosystem. The landscape changes dramatically as the escarpment gives way to the open savannah. Arrive at the Mara family camp in the afternoon. First evening drive introduces the children to the Mara scale.

Day 04

Junior Ranger Day

Maasai Mara · Mara Camp

The centrepiece of the family experience. Your guide runs the Junior Ranger programme specifically designed for children: animal tracking by footprint, bird identification, insect observation, and understanding the food chain from the ground up. A formal Junior Ranger certificate ceremony at sunset.

Day 05

Full Family Safari Day

Maasai Mara National Reserve

A full day calibrated to the family's pace. No rushing. The children are now identifying animals — and often spotting them before the adults. Maasai village visit in the afternoon where children are entranced by the warriors' jumping game. Evening bonfire at camp.

Day 06

Final Mara Morning Nairobi

Mara · Return journey

A last morning drive before the road return to Nairobi. The Junior Ranger certificates are already out of the bags. Children quiz each other on animals all the way home.
