Kenya's Wild North — Discovered Alone

The north of Kenya is a different country from the south. Drier, wilder, quieter. The Samburu Five — endemic species found nowhere else on earth — roam freely along the Ewaso Ng'iro riverbanks. Ol Pejeta Conservancy hosts the world's last two northern white rhinos, protected around the clock. Mount Kenya's cedar forest foothills are primordial, fog-draped, and almost entirely unknown to tourists.

Solo travellers find the north particularly compelling. The landscape invites reflection. The wildlife demands patience. The guides here are not performing for a group — they are sharing with you. Five days in the north will reset your relationship with silence.

Your Itinerary

Day 01

Nairobi Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Road transfer · 3.5 hrs · Central Kenya

Depart Nairobi northwest through Nyeri and the Mount Kenya foothills. The landscape shifts from highland farmland to open savannah as you enter Ol Pejeta. Afternoon game drive with the specific goal of visiting Sudan's enclosure — the last male northern white rhino died here in 2018, and the two remaining females, Najin and Fatu, live under armed protection.

Day 02

Full Ol Pejeta Day

Ol Pejeta Conservancy · Sweetwaters

Ol Pejeta is Kenya's highest-density wildlife conservancy. Lion, elephant, cheetah, leopard and both black and white rhino coexist in a remarkably compact ecosystem. The chimpanzee sanctuary is a unique feature — the only place in Kenya to see chimps. Sundowner at the equator marker.

Day 03

Ol Pejeta Samburu

Northern Kenya · Ewaso Ngyiro

Road transfer north through Isiolo and into Samburu. The landscape becomes increasingly arid and magnificent — doum palms, red earth, and the distant shimmer of the north. Afternoon game drive revealing the Samburu Five.

Day 04

Full Samburu Day

Samburu National Reserve

A full day dedicated to Samburu's extraordinary biodiversity. Dawn predator drive — lion are frequently seen in the riverine trees. Reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and the Somali ostrich. Night drive in the reserve.

Day 05

Samburu Mount Kenya Foothills Nairobi

Nanyuki · Nairobi return

Morning game drive, then road south through Nanyuki at the base of Mount Kenya. Stop at a cedar forest viewpoint — the mountain reveals itself in sections through the cloud. Return to Nairobi by late afternoon.
