Between July and October, approximately 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebra and 200,000 Thomson's gazelle cross the Mara River. What happens at those crossings — the crocodiles, the panic, the courage, the drowning and the surviving — is the single most dramatic wildlife event on earth.
Migration Witness positions you at the river in total luxury, with a dedicated crossing spotter whose sole purpose is to be at the right place at the right time. When the crossing happens, you are there. In a private camp with your own guide, your own vehicle, and a dawn balloon flight to see the migration herds from above.
Charter flight to the Mara. Your private riverside camp is positioned within walking distance of the most active crossing points. Your dedicated crossing spotter briefs you over lunch: where the herds are, which crossing point is live, what to expect when it happens.
Pre-dawn. Your balloon lifts off as the first light touches the horizon below you. From 500 metres, the migration herds are visible as a living, breathing carpet across the plains. Post-flight champagne breakfast. Then straight to the crossing point.
An entire day at the river. Crossings can happen at any moment — and when they do, they happen fast. The build-up is as compelling as the event itself: the herds massing on the Tanzania side, the lead animals approaching the bank, the tension rising, and then — the commitment.
A morning on the open plains for lion, cheetah, and elephant encounters. The predators are superabundant during migration — opportunistic lions follow the herds. Afternoon return to the river for a second crossing vigil. Fine dinner under canvas.
One final morning at the river. Breakfast at camp with the sound of the wildebeest in the distance. Charter to Nairobi with a migration memory that will outlast everything.
